“We’re looking forward to a constant stream of community and regional events and festivals” Fraser-MacKinnon stated. “We have surrounded our annual events with a number of smaller community activities, with the result that there’s really something ongoing for everyone. Cape Breton culture, Cape Breton music, Cape Breton outdoor beauty…it’s all there!”

Northern Cape Breton major events for this season include:

  • Bay St. Lawrence Annual Feis (Scottish Festival) June 7th , ’08
  • The Annual Fishing Derby and Crabfest in Bay St. Lawrence July 20, 08
  • The “Fire On The Hill” concert of Cape Breton music in Cape North July 26, ’08

In addition, regional participation in the Hike the Highlands and Celtic Colours autumn events will continue to showcase the splendor of the region’s foliage back dropped by mountains, the ocean and the harbours.

Fraser MacKinnon emphasized the flow of events highlighting the fishery, the culture and the environmental beauty of this Northern Cape Breton region. “Starting with the Blessing of the Fleet during lobster season in May, followed by the Crab Fest in July, the August focus on whale watching and kayaking and on into the fall with the Hike the Highlands Festival and the Celtic Colours music festival, we really feel we have a tremendous amount of activities for visitors!”
