Outdoor operators and Bed and Breakfast hosts at the northern tip of Cape Breton Island in Nova Scotia have joined forces to offer a unique package for the coming summer season.
Billed as the "Northern Waterfalls Tour", this three-day package combines three nights’ B&B accommodations with visits to ten waterfalls spread over a three day period.
The waterfalls, most of which are not accessible by automobile, are all located at the northern tip of the island, in the region known as the "Top of the Island". The regional website’s URL is www.northerncapebreton.com.
Waterfall visits include:
- A waterfall hidden at the end of a 200 yard deep "gulch" and a second accompanied by full sea arches, only accessible by Zodiac whale tour vessel;*
- A "stepping stone" series of cascading pools accessible as part of a half day guided hike;
- A series of three waterfalls that tumble from high cliffs down to the ocean, and accessible only by whale tour boat;*
- A falls that tumbles into a series of elevated natural basins and is accessible by guided hiking, including "rock hopping", up a scenic brook, complete with natural trout and salmon; and
- Three waterfalls accessible by self-guided automobile.
The package includes:
- two three-hour boat trips, with whale sightings included;
- two half-day hikes, with light lunches and occasional moose sightings included;
- written directions and maps for scenic self-guided road trips to auto-accessible falls
- three nights’ accommodations with full breakfasts
